IdealShape Meal Replacement Shakes are a type of product that is meant to provide you with the nutrition and calories of a healthful meal without requiring you to actually prepare food that you have to consume. Meal replacements come in many different forms but this product happens to come in the most common of them, which is a shake beverage.
According to the official webpage for this product on the IdealShape brand website, this meal replacement shake is designed specifically to help users to control their hunger so they can eat the right number of calories and lose weight. The claim on the site is that it has been “proven to block hunger for up to 3 hours.”
That statement appears dubious for two main reasons. The first is that it says it is proven to do something without actually providing any evidence of that proof. Whether it was proven by an independent third party unpaid clinical study or whether it was proven by two people who work for the company, nothing has been provided to provide any evidence for that claim. This means that the consumer is left to simply blindly believe that what this company is saying is true, despite the fact that the company stands to gain financially if the consumer makes a purchase.
The second reason that statement is questionable is that it is carefully worded to say “up to” three hours. This means that anywhere from nothing to three hours is technically included within that statement. If the user’s hunger is suppressed exclusively during the time that he or she is consuming that product but then he or she instantly becomes hungry again, that still means that the individual’s hunger was suppressed for up to three hours.
That said, just because the wording of the advertising is unsubstantiated and doesn’t make much of a claim, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t actually work. After all, the product and its advertising are not necessarily the same thing.
The IdealShape Meal Replacement Shakes come in four different flavors: Chocolate, Mocha, Vanilla and Strawberry. They are designed to replace one meal per day for weight maintenance and two meals per day for fat loss.
It’s important to note that most doctors will not recommend that two meals be replaced with a shake on a daily basis. This makes it difficult to balance a diet with whole food as there is only one meal left in which to do that. Moreover, replacing meals with a shake is hardly a long term strategy and does nothing to provide the dieter with the type of habits required to keep the lost weight from returning in the future.
